I'm sorry if I'm 'uninformed', but there have been no results to suggest that GMO produces negative effects. People claim that there have been no tests to prove this. There have also been no tests to indicate otherwise. If you are of the belief that we should not be eating these foods because we have had no long term tests, what do you consider long term? If that is your reasoning, then should not be taking aspirin, panadol, using mobiles or computers. Whats more, there have been studies suggesting links with these and cancers, and other diseases. While I agree that Sergy perhaps stated his point wrongly, he also has a valid point. People should not be preaching against GMO until there is definite evidence they have negative side effects. As of this post there has been no evidence produce to support these peoples point. Eat GMO, conventional or organic, it doesn't matter, but give everyone the right to form their own opinion. give them unbiased facts, not opinions, and let them to draw their own rational conclusions.

What the hell took so long for this information to get out there? I've been reading about it for years from various places. Does the mainstream medical industry believe EVERYTHING the food industry says in a press release? Doesn't anyone do their own research?

Mario is right on target. An excess of omega 6 fatty acids causes an inflammatory reaction in the body (cardiac disease has at its foundation an inflammatory reaction). This nas been know for quite awhile and is hardly "breaking news".
There is no good data that I'm aware of linking GMO foods to human disease (other environmental issues are, however, a concern).

This issue has been addressed in other studies but has been swept under the carpet and kept very low key for a long time. One very important issue is the ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 in our body. It has been estimated to traditionally be two parts omega 6 to 1 part omega 3 or so. There are current estimates this changed to 20-50 parts omega 6 to 1 part omega 3. This is due to our intake of fried foods and virtually all salad dressings and cooking oils made from vegetable seeds (exceptions are coconut, olive--omega 9--).

Increasing omega 3 intake is not the solution, it is continuous avoidance of omega 6 fats which are these very same polyunsaturated, linoleic acid seed oils.

Of the five oils high in omega 6 linoleic acid, three are almost certainly genetically modified (GMO) and therefore should be avoided by everyone, whether or not you have coronary artery disease: soybean, corn and cottonseed. And, beware if you decide to switch to omega 3-rich canola oil. Unless it says "certified organic" or "non-GMO project verified" it, also, is probably genetically modified.
