		<description>I wonder if the depth of their habitat has anything to do with it.  As a creature gets up to the surface or at higher elevations, they&#039;re exposed to more radiation which can cause random mutations (perhaps explaining the longevity of the coelecanth as well).  They also must have some degree of mobility or you&#039;d think there would be some isolated populations that do gain some changes that persist (the island effect).  So any changes that must occur must be corrected by breeding with the surrounding population.</description>
