In general, if we see the whole tobacco industry from a narrow focal point, it causes nothing but trouble. It makes people ill and even causes death for some, while costing a lot of money before and after sickness. However, from a wider perspective and in a bigger picture, we can see that tobacco industry goes about in a supply chain. We have tobacco farmers at the start of the chain, then to the distributors and sellers, next to the tobacco giants, and finally to the smokers. If we focus on the consumers alone and wanting to eliminate the harmful effects tobacco has on consumers, then we are indirectly causing harm to the previous entities in the supply chain. I still think something can be done and alternatives such as green smoke can be introduced and regulated more heavily in the market.

I am totally agreed with you, tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced. It kills nearly six million people a year of whom more than 5 million are users and ex users and more than 600 000 are nonsmokers exposed to second-hand smoke as many people won't be able to quit smoking by psychiatric treatment or with self help courses. In fact, up to 90% of people trying to quit eventually relapse and start smoking again. People wanted to quit it instantly but it is very difficult to quit tobacco cessation instantly, you need a gradual quitting process. To fight with your carvings and desperation you can rely upon products like electronic cigarettes and green tea. We have to fight with this epidemic before the stats increases.

Reading things like this really highlights the importance of taking a stand and shockingly, taking action doesn't always have to be hard or time consuming!

I came across a photo contest that is looking for folks to take pictures of tobacco advertising that is happening in or around cash registers, store fronts and gas stations etc.. Check out the site http://www.countertobacco.org/news/2012/08/30/counter-tobacco-photo-contest for more info.
Contest ends Sept 22 so take out those cell phones and take action! Apparently prizes are also available for winners :)
