I am a high-tech problem-solver, and I speak 14 industries fluently. When I was on a project in a major industrial, but not tourist, city in Mexico, I got sick. One cursory look from the factory doctor while I was in full business dress, disagnosed Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). I had had the symptoms for years and gone to several (Gastric/Intestinal) GI doctors in the states, but no luck. So a painful situation was alleviated, much to my great relief.

Then I recently went to a local emergency room to treat a surprise blood infection - totally removed from IBS. They gave me a serious shot of antibiotics. And guess what? My IBS was much improved. I have replicated the antibiotics at a later date with the same results.

At least in this individual's case, there is a one-on-one correlation between IBs and antibiotics.

There was a comment a few days ago about suspending cells in a three dimentional system to better simulate the actual environment found in the human body. It might be of interest to see if these two systems might have cross connections to see if more insights could be interpreted.
