Temporary loss of hearing, also called temporary threshold shift, takes place directly after spending several hours around loud noise at high decibels. It is caused by the temporary damaging the hair cells in the ear, and is reversible. The hearing usually returns to normal after a significant time away from the loud noise, from 16 to 48 hours. However, repeated instances of a temporary loss of hearing will result in permanent loss of hearing.

In 2010 my husband and I travelled from Boise, Idaho to Mexico and received pluripotent umbilical stem cells to see if the treatment could improve my profound hearing loss and near total blindness due to Ushers Syndrome, Type II.
Short sections of the umbilical cord were cut in tiny pieces. 2mm incisions were made outside both temples and as many pieces as would fit were stuffed into the spaces then sutured. Similar incisions were made directly behind each ear, outside the mastoid bone.
Within 50-60 minutes my eyesight opened to the point that I got my driver's license and purchased my first sports car! I went to beauty school and purchased a salon after graduating. The cells did nothing for my hearing but helped my sight tremendously. I would be very happy to volunteer for any clinical trials for my cochlear. I am grateful and seeing today because of stem cells! I can be reached at kevo409@yahoo.com

High profile hearing impaired advocates have done cyberbullying campaigns too. One high ranking closed captioning advocate had been doing a supersecret cyberbullying campaign for six years against another hearing impaired advocate before she got caught last July. This discovery could impact everything from closed captioning, deaf education, TRS-VRS access, movie theater captioning, and related advocacy campaigns. The big upshot is that the advocacy stance and the civil rights of people with hearing impairments could be sent backwards by as much as 30 years. See more about it at http://wp.me/p1Sx9N-1hF
