Could this mean students can learn if they can program a device to repeat 'items to remember' slowly using voice overs during sleep?

I slept through alot of college courses and didnt learn anything. lol I am always looking for ways to optimize my time and learning while I sleep would be great. My only question is how good is your sleep if you are listening to information. I frequently wake up during sleep with an answer to a question which supports the idea we think while we sleep but If we are trying to facilitate learning while sleeping I wonnder if that would hinder good sleep. Experts say you should not sleep with the TV on for optimal sleep.

Seems that I recall during the late 50's and into 60's there were multiple such studies done at several locations across the country with much, much less positive results. NorthWestern may have been one of the research centers doing sleep learning experiments. Another interesting question that might be interesting, what is different between the subjects back then and today. Has something happened in this generations way of processing? In the 40's babies and young children took naps in quiet rooms. Today and for the last decade or so, they take naps with all sorts of background sounds, to include TV's, radio's etc. Could a contributor be the environment in which we grew?

This sounds so great for learning new languages. If recordings of recent language lessons could be replayed during deep sleep. It might be especially good for getting the pronunciation right if our conscious brain isn't cutting in with our first language pronunciation sounds.

Because roughly one-third of our lives are spent in a sleeping state, it is good to have substantiated this extra opportunity for learning. With so much potential knowledge to absorb in this modern era, we very much need to explore additional means for enhancing our intellectual pursuit. Your research is another important step forward in this process.
