The ash and smoke pumped into the atmosphere by these mega eruptions would have been a much larger factor for climate change than their gas output.

Fine ash and carbon would have circulated high in the atmosphere cutting out the sun and killing huge areas of plant and animal life as well as dramatically changing rainfall patterns and temperatures over much of the earth's surface. Rapid kill-off of photosynthesising plant life = change in CO2/O2 balance.

Is there any way to estimate past carbon deposits size pre-subduction compared to today's ? It would seem that harvesting carbon for energy reduces the amount being lost to subduction .

What would happen if Carbon Dioxide were "broken down" from it's composition? Perhaps something like the "decelnization of salty sea water" which is going to become and even "hotter" issue. The planet appears to be running out of "drink-able" water, combined with current "fracking" there will soon be even less. The thoughts come from "Chemical Plants" wherein they create, but also breakdown therefore creating new usable.
