One of the most common causes of preventable health care-associated infections is poor hand hygiene. iScrub Lite 1.5, an iPhone and iPod touch application developed at the University of Iowa, makes monitoring hand hygiene compliance more efficient and accurate. iScrub allows a user to enter data on an iPhone or iPod and periodically email the information in spreadsheet form.

Protein key to blood pressure sensors
U. IOWA (US)—A protein channel helps nerve sensors in blood vessels keep blood pressure in check, new research shows. Without the protein channel, known as ASIC2, the sensors are unable to send the brain the signals it needs to properly control blood pressure. (more…)
